AFINORA

Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 11, 2026

Afinora is a practice app for string instruments: a tuner, a metronome, a scale and chord reference, ear and technique training, and a recorder for playing over backing tracks. This policy explains how the app handles data.

The short version: Afinora has no account, no advertising and no analytics. It makes no network requests of its own except to manage a purchase. Everything you play, record or configure stays on your device unless you share it yourself.

Data collection

Afinora does not require an account and does not collect personal information.

Afinora has no servers of its own. It does not send your audio, your recordings, your backing tracks, your settings or your practice history anywhere.

Microphone

Afinora requests microphone access for two purposes:

  1. Pitch and timing detection, in the tuner and in ear and technique training. This audio is analysed on the device as it arrives and is never written to a file, kept, uploaded, sold or shared. Nothing of it survives the moment it is analysed.
  2. Recording in Studio, when you press record. This audio is written to a file on your device, because a recording is the point of it. It is not uploaded.

Technique training can also listen through a USB audio interface connected to your device. Audio from an interface is treated exactly like microphone audio.

Camera

Afinora requests camera access only for Studio, and only while a take is set to video. The camera is used to record the take you asked for. No frame is uploaded, and Afinora never uses the camera outside Studio.

Photos and videos

Afinora asks for write-only access to your photo library, and asks for it only at the moment you save a Studio take to your gallery. Afinora does not read, browse, index or scan your existing photos or videos. Write-only is the permission the app requests, not merely a promise about how it behaves.

Backing tracks and files

When you import a backing track, you choose the file yourself through your device's own file picker. Afinora copies it into its own folder so that it can remember the section you marked on it, and reads nothing else from your storage. Imported tracks are not uploaded, and copies that no track in your list still points at are deleted automatically.

Recordings

Studio takes are written to your device's cache directory. They stay there until you discard them, until Afinora cleans up a take that nothing points at any more, or until your operating system reclaims the space.

A take leaves your device only in two ways, and both are ones you start:

Afinora never uploads a recording on its own, in the background, or for any purpose of its own.

Data stored on your device

Afinora stores the following locally, and only locally: your settings, custom tunings, metronome preferences, ear-training scores, technique practice history and audio-interface calibration, your Studio session with its list of recent tracks, and your trial and purchase state.

Technique practice history records what you configured and how you performed — tempo, notes, accuracy and timing. It never contains audio.

Deleting the app removes this data, with one deliberate exception described below.

Purchase identifier

Afinora generates a random identifier for your installation the first time it runs and stores it on your device. It is not derived from your device, your accounts, your advertising identifier or anything about you, and it is not shared with anyone but the purchase entitlement service described below.

Its only purpose is to let a purchase you already made be recognised again after a reinstall. On iOS it is stored in the system keychain, which is why it — and therefore your Pro purchase and your trial state — can survive deleting and reinstalling the app.

Analytics and advertising

Afinora contains no third-party advertising, no ad SDKs, no analytics SDK, no crash reporting, no login and no custom backend, and no third-party tracking of any kind. The app may show first-party prompts about Afinora features or Pro access; those are part of the product, not advertising.

Payments

Afinora offers an optional one-time in-app purchase to unlock Pro features. There is no subscription.

Purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store, depending on where you installed the app. Afinora never sees or stores payment card information.

Afinora uses RevenueCat to manage purchase status and Pro access. RevenueCat receives the random installation identifier described above, and may process purchase history and store receipt or purchase token information for entitlement management. This is the only network traffic Afinora originates.

Children

Afinora is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
