For guitar, bass, ukulele, Venezuelan cuatro, violin and more

Tuner, metronome and music trainer

Afinora brings together a tuner, a metronome and interactive exercises to practice with your instrument. In training mode, the notes move across the screen as you play, like in a music game. The app listens through the phone's microphone or an audio interface connected over USB, and recognizes the notes you play in real time.

Technique training

A wrong note and a late note are not the same mistake

So Afinora measures them apart: every note gets its own verdict as it crosses the cursor, and pitch and timing end up as two separate figures. You finish knowing which of them to practise.

Bring your own exercises

Built-in scale patterns, or paste your own as plain text and Afinora turns it into an exercise you can play.

It tells you when to speed up

You set the tempo before you start. When the run ends, Afinora reads how it went and says whether the next one should be faster, the same, or slower.

A history per scale

Each exercise keeps its own record, so you can see whether you are getting better.

01 · Tuner

Reads every note exactly

Real-time pitch detection, processed on the device itself. Over thirty standard and alternate tunings, plus the ones you build yourself. A reference tone on any string and six A4 references, from 432 to 442 Hz.

02 · Chords and scales

The whole neck, in your tuning

Twenty scales and twenty chords, drawn where you actually play them: up to 24 frets, with a fullscreen view. Notes or degrees, chord voicings including barre shapes, and the chords that belong to the key you are looking at. From there, a scale goes straight into training.

03 · Metronome

Set the tempo, pick the bar, play

Not sure of the BPM? Tap it with a finger and Afinora works it out. From 30 to 300 BPM and time signatures from 2/4 to 12/8, with subdivisions down to sixteenths: at slow tempos it is easy to get lost between one beat and the next, and that is where they help. Tap any beat in the bar to accent it or silence it. It is the same click the training measures your timing against, and it is complete in the free version.

04 · Studio

Record yourself over the backing track

Import a backing track, mark the section you are working on and loop it. Slow it down, and have the loop climb back up a little each time round, by as much as you choose. Record yourself over it as audio or video, save it to your gallery or share it. Recordings are files on your phone: the app never uploads them.

Audio input

How Afinora listens to your instrument

Grading note by note only works if the signal coming in is clean. There are two ways in. See which one is yours.

Acoustic: through the microphone

Acoustic guitar, violin, cello, ukulele, mandolin, Venezuelan cuatro. The phone’s microphone is enough to tune and to train.

Electric: through a USB interface

An unamplified electric is not a signal a detector can read reliably, and a room microphone drops notes as soon as there is noise. With an interface, Afinora detects it, compensates its latency and tells you it is connected.

It is all processed here

Audio used for tuning and training is analysed on the device as it arrives. It is never recorded or uploaded.

Tested with the Fender Mustang Micro Plus, and works with other compatible USB audio interfaces. Fender and Mustang Micro Plus are trademarks of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation; Afinora is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Fender.

Private from the start

No account, no ads, no tracking

There is no sign-up and no login: you open the app and play. There are no third-party ads and no analytics of our own. Audio used for tuning and training is analysed on the device as it arrives and is never recorded or uploaded. Studio recordings stay on your phone unless you share them yourself.
